About Regional Support Teams

Five Regional Support Teams (RST) were implemented in March 2013 by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) with Virginia’s emphasis on supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in the most integrated community setting that is consistent with their informed choice of all available options and opportunities. The RST is comprised of professionals with experience and expertise in serving individuals with developmental disabilities in the community, including individuals with complex behavioral and medical needs.

The RST purpose includes:

  • To identify and seek to resolve individual, regional, or system barriers that prevent individuals from receiving services in the most integrated setting of their choice.
  • To make recommendations for resolving barriers to receive services in integrated settings.
